What is Snapshot Trips?

Snapshot Trips creates one-day adventures to help you explore Devon your way. Choose from a full-day self-guided road trip, a half-day walking trip, or a guided walking tour —all themed and designed to combine surprise, local gems and stories.

With self-guided walking and road trips, you’ll receive your adventure in the post or as a PDF, including a ‘Before You Go’ guide and up to four surprise stops revealed in sealed envelopes along the way. Guided walking tours are host led - sharing the best spots and local tales.

We take care of the planning so you can focus on enjoying your day, discovering unique places and capturing memories.
From hidden gems and handpicked local spots to scenic views and off-the-beaten-path experiences, we love making sure you explore the best of Devon and make the most of your trip.

How does it work?

1. Choose your adventure – pick a self-guided road trip, walking trip or guided walking tour.

2. Get your trip – self-guided trips come as a posted itinerary or PDF, complete with a ‘Get Ready To Go’ guide. Guided walking tours are hosted by an expert local guide.

3. Follow the journey – for self-guided trips, open sealed envelopes throughout the day to reveal your next stop and information booklet. Guided walking tours include stories, tips and local insights from your host.

4. Enjoy and explore – we’ve planned the logistics so you can focus on discovering hidden gems, local businesses and making memorable experiences!

Do your trips have an expiry date?

Self-Guided Trips - We recommend taking your self-guided trip within 6 months of purchase to make the most of up-to-date details and recommendations. You’re still welcome to use it after that, but please note that opening hours and business information may change. Always double-check each stop online before you go, or scan the QR code in your 'Before You Go' guide for any updates.

Guided Walking Tours- These are booked for a specific date and time, so your tour is valid for that booking. Once you've booked your tour, you will receive a confirmation email with all the details you need, including meeting times and location. You can choose from available events when booking.

Are the trips family friendly?

Yes, many of our self-guided trips and guided walking tours are great for families! Look out for the family-friendly icon under each trip description, or search ‘family-friendly’ in the search bar to find ones that suit you.

Are the trips dog friendly?

Self Guided Trips: Many of our self-guided trips are dog-friendly! You’ll see a dog icon under the trip description if it's suitable to bring your pooch along. You can also search for 'dog-friendly' trips in the search bar. (Please note that some restaurants and shops on your trip may be dog-friendly, whilst others may not).

Guided Walking Tours: Well-behaved dogs may be welcome on some walks, but we recommend checking the trip description for our dog-friendly icons before booking.

Are the trips accessible for people with limited mobility or wheelchair users?

Self-guided trips: We aim to make our trips as accessible as possible. If a stop isn’t wheelchair-friendly or has limited access, we’ll always offer an alternative. Look for the accessibility icon under each trip description to help guide your choice. You can also search ‘accessible’ in the search bar, and the trip overview on each product page includes a helpful heads-up on accessibility.

Guided walking tours: It is best to check the trip description on the website page for the accessibility icon before booking.

Self-Guided Trips (Road Trips and Walks)

Which trip should I choose?!

It can be tricky to decide with so many great options! Here’s how to pick the right trip for you:

1. Think about the type of self-guided trip you would like to go on...

Road Trips – Full-day trip exploring multiple stops over a region (up to 4 stops). Perfect if you want a more immersive day out.

Walking Trips – Half-day experiences, strolling from stop to stop (up to 4 stops). Ideal for a relaxed pace, exploring a local area on foot.

2. Check the trip page details

Each trip shows a snapshot of what to expect: best time of year, ideal audience, and a sneak peek at the itinerary.

We use icons to indicate if the trip is family-friendly, dog-friendly, or accessible, so you can quickly see what suits you.

3. Search for specific features

If you know what you want (like 'dog friendly', 'quirky' or 'nature'), type it into the search bar to find matching trips instantly.

4. Still can't decide?! Ask us!

Email us at hello@snapshottrips.com with details like where you’re starting from, your interests (walks, wildlife, the coast, cafes, ghost stories etc), your travel dates, and whether you’ll be going with children or someone with accessibility needs. The more details you give, the easier it is for us to point you in the right direction!

What's the difference between a posted trip and a PDF trip?

Posted Trip

You’ll receive a beautifully packaged set of up to 5 sealed envelopes—one “Before You Go” envelope and up to 4 surprise stop envelopes. You can open the 'Before You Go' booklet gives you just enough detail to help you prepare for your trip, without spoiling the fun.

On the day of your trip, open 'your first stop' envelope when you're ready to begin. After each stop, simply open the next one to reveal where you’re heading next!

PDF Trip

Ideal if you're short on time or prefer a digital version. Your trip will be sent as a downloadable file instead of being posted to you. Once you've placed your order, we’ll send you a link to access your trip.

To keep the surprise element, your digital trip will come in separate parts—start with the “Before You Go” section, then open each stop file one at a time as you go.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping costs are included in the price displayed on our website, so there are no additional charges for standard delivery of physical trip packages. For digital trip packages, once your payment is successfully processed, it will be available for immediate download at no extra cost. You will receive an email with access details shortly after purchase.

When do I go on the trip?

Each trip’s product page includes a "When to Go" section, which gives you guidance on the best time of year to take that particular trip. This information is also included in your 'Before You Go' booklet, which comes with your trip pack.

Most of our trips are best enjoyed at the weekend, as many of the small businesses and hidden gems we recommend have better opening hours then. If you choose to go during the week, please keep in mind that a few stops may be closed on weekdays or public holidays. We do our best to highlight this wherever possible.

How do I know where to go?

Part of the fun of Snapshot Trips is letting go and enjoying the adventure—but we also give you just enough information to feel prepared and relaxed on the day.

Where we go: All of our trips currently start and end within Devon, giving you a general idea of the area your adventure will take place in.

The ‘Before You Go’ booklet:

  • Each trip comes with this booklet, which gives a sneak peek of your day, such as the nearest town to your first stop.
  • You can also see this information on each trip’s product page before booking.
  • The booklet includes suggested timings for each stop and approximate driving or walking times: road trips: usually 10–20 minutes between stops and walking trips: up to 15 minutes between stops. This way, you know what to expect without spoiling the surprises along the way.

    Directions to each stop
  • Each stop booklet includes a map overview, the address, parking info (for road trips), and a description of what’s waiting for you.
  • We recommend using GPS navigation, but some areas may have limited phone signal, so it’s a good idea to download offline maps before setting off.

Still unsure? Just ask!

If you have any questions before booking, email us at hello@snapshottrips.com. Let us know where you’re travelling from and what kind of experience you’re looking for, and we’ll help point you in the right direction.

  • Most stops are free to visit, and if a stop includes a paid option, we always provide a free alternative.

  • Meals, parking fees, and other personal expenses are not included.

Do I need to book anything?

No you don’t need to book anything ahead of time! Snapshot Trips are self-guided, which means you get to choose the day that works best for you and your fellow adventurers.

Each trip includes a “Before You Go” booklet with tips on the best time of year and days to travel, plus everything you need to help your day run smoothly.

Our final stops always include 'Foodie Finds' to round up your trip. We suggest giving these places a quick call when you open the last envelope—especially during busier months—just to make sure there’s space.

How long will my self-guided trip take?

Road Trips

  • Our road trips are designed to be completed in a single day.
  • Each trip has its own timings but generally the suggested start time is around 9–10am, aiming to finish around 6pm, just in time for dinner.
  • Stops sometimes include a few different options, so there’s plenty to choose from along the way.
  • With so many fantastic places to discover, you might not fit everything in—and that’s totally fine! You can always revisit and explore anything you missed another day.

Walking Trips

Walking trips are typically designed as half-day experiences, either in the morning or afternoon. Some stops may have optional paid experiences available if you want to make your day out longer.

💡 Tip: If you plan to enjoy the paid optional extras then starting in the morning is a good idea, as your trip may take longer than a standard half-day. You can follow the suggested itinerary or linger at stops to explore at your own pace.

Where does the trip end?

Part of the fun of Snapshot Trips is letting go and enjoying the adventure—but we also give you just enough information to help you feel prepared and relaxed on the day. We don’t reveal the end location in advance to keep the surprise element intact.

However, if you need to know the final destination for planning purposes (e.g. if you're booking overnight accommodation), just drop us an email at hello@snapshottrips.com with the name of the trip, and we’ll be happy to help.
