How It Works

What is Snapshot Trips?

Snapshot Trips creates self-guided, one-day surprise road trips designed around a distinct theme. You’ll get a sneak peek of your itinerary with up to five surprise stops, but the real fun begins on the day itself when you open each envelope to reveal your next destination! We take care of all the details so you can focus on enjoying the journey and capturing unforgettable memories. From hidden gems to picturesque spots and local favourites, we love recommending local businesses and unique places that make each trip special. (Stay tuned—we aim to bring walking and cycling trips to you soon!)

How do I know where to go?

Part of the fun of Snapshot Trips is letting go and enjoying the adventure—but we also give you just enough information to help you feel prepared and relaxed on the day.

  1. We’re based in Devon

For now, all of our trips start and end within Devon. This gives you a general idea of the area your adventure will take place in.

  2. The ‘Get Ready to Go’ booklet

Each trip comes with this booklet, which gives you a sneak peek of your day—such as one of the nearest towns to your first stop. This is also noted on each trip’s product page on our website, so you can get a rough idea before you book. The booklet also includes suggested timings for each stop and approximate driving times (usually between 10–30 minutes between stops), so you’ll know what to expect without spoiling the surprise.

  3. Directions to each stop

Every stop booklet has a map overview, the address, parking information, and a description of what’s waiting for you. We recommend using GPS to navigate—but as some areas may have limited phone signal, it’s a good idea to download offline maps before setting off.

  4. Still unsure? Just ask!

If you have any questions before booking, feel free to get in touch - drop us an email at hello@snapshottrips.com. Let us know where you're travelling from and what kind of experience you're looking for, and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Where does the trip end?

Part of the fun of Snapshot Trips is letting go and enjoying the adventure—but we also give you just enough information to help you feel prepared and relaxed on the day. We don’t reveal the end location in advance to keep the surprise element intact.

However, if you need to know the final destination for planning purposes (e.g. if you're booking overnight accommodation), just drop us an email at hello@snapshottrips.com with the name of the trip, and we’ll be happy to help.

When do I go on the trip?

Each trip’s product page includes a "When to Go" section, which gives you guidance on the best time of year to take that particular trip. This information is also included in your Get Ready to Go booklet, which comes with your trip pack.

Most of our trips are best enjoyed at the weekend, as many of the small businesses and hidden gems we recommend have better opening hours then. If you choose to go during the week, please keep in mind that a few stops may be closed on weekdays or public holidays. We do our best to highlight this wherever possible.

What is included / not included in a trip?

Included

Our road trips include a well-planned itinerary for the day, with a focus on discovering hidden gems, picturesque spots, and great local businesses. We aim to choose stops that are free to visit and, if a trip includes a paid stop, we always provide a free alternative.

Not included

Food, drinks, snacks, fuel, parking, and any admission fees (if applicable) are not included in the trip price. That said, most of our recommended stops are free—and where they’re not, we always suggest a free alternative.

How long will my trip take?

Our trips are designed to be completed in a single day. Each one has a suggested start time—usually around 9–10am—with the aim of finishing by around 6pm, just in time for dinner.

Each stop often includes a few recommended options, so there’s plenty to choose from along the way. With so many fantastic places to discover, you might not fit everything in—and that’s totally fine! You’re always welcome to revisit and explore anything you missed another day.

Do your trips have an expiry date?

We suggest taking your trip within 12 months of purchase to make the most of up-to-date details and recommendations. You’re still welcome to use it after that—but do bear in mind that opening hours and business information can change over time.

We do our best to keep everything current, but it’s always a good idea to double-check each stop online before you go. You can also scan the QR code in your Before You Go booklet or visit our website for any trip updates.

What's the difference between a posted trip and a PDF trip?

Posted Trip

You’ll receive a beautifully packaged set of up to six sealed envelopes—one “Get Ready to Go” envelope and up to five surprise stop envelopes. The Get Ready to Go envelope includes just enough detail to help you prepare, without spoiling the fun.

On the day of your trip, open your first envelope when you're ready to begin. After each stop, simply open the next one to reveal where you’re heading next!

PDF Trip

Ideal if you're short on time or prefer a digital version. Your trip will be sent as a downloadable file instead of being posted to you. Once you've placed your order, we’ll send you a link to access your trip.

To keep the surprise element, your digital trip will come in separate parts—start with the “Get Ready to Go” section, then open each stop file one at a time as you travel.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping costs are included in the price displayed on our website, so there are no additional charges for standard delivery of physical trip packages. For digital trip packages, once your payment is successfully processed, it will be available for immediate download at no extra cost. You will receive an email with access details shortly after purchase.

Choosing Your Adventure

Which trip should I choose?!

It can be tricky to decide which trip to take with so many great options! Here are a few ways to help you choose the right road trip for you:

1) Each trip page includes a snapshot of what to expect: the best time of year to go, who the trip is ideal for, and a sneak peek at the itinerary. You'll also see helpful icons showing if it's family-friendly, dog-friendly, or has accessibility information to guide your choice.

2) We're happy to help you pick the right trip! Just drop us an email at with a few details to hello@snapshottrips.com —where you're starting from, what you enjoy (like walks, wildlife, the coast, cafes, ghost stories, etc.), when you're hoping to travel, and whether you'll be going with children or someone with accessibility needs. The more details you give, the easier it is for us to point you in the right direction!

3) If you already know what you're after (like “dog-friendly” or “set jetting”), type it into the search bar to find matching trips.

Do I need to book anything?

Good news - you don’t need to book anything with us! Snapshot Trips are self-guided, which means you get to choose the day that works best for you and your fellow adventurers.

Each trip includes a “Get Ready to Go” booklet with tips on the best time of year and days to travel, plus everything you need to help your day run smoothly.

Our final stops always include 'Foodie Finds' to round up your trip. We suggest giving these places a quick call when you open the last envelope—especially during busier months—just to make sure there’s space.

Are the trips dog friendly?

Yes, many of our trips are dog-friendly! You’ll see a dog icon under the trip description if it's suitable to bring your pooch along. You can also search for 'dog-friendly' trips in the search bar.

Note: Some restaurants and shops may be dog-friendly, while others may not.

Are the trips accessible for people with limited mobility or wheelchair users?

We aim to make our trips as accessible as possible. If a stop isn’t wheelchair-friendly or has limited access, we’ll always offer an alternative. Look for the accessibility icon under each trip description to help guide your choice. You can also search ‘accessible’ in the search bar, and the trip overview on each product page includes a helpful heads-up on accessibility.

Are the trips family friendly?

Yes, many of our trips are great for families! Look out for the family-friendly icon under each trip description, or search ‘family-friendly’ in the search bar to find ones that suit you.

Some stops may include longer walks or outdoor activities, but we always offer alternatives where we can—so you can go with the flow, take breaks, or just soak up the surroundings. Drive times between stops are usually between 10–30 minutes, making it easy to keep everyone happy on the drive!
